Public Relations Manager
Position Summary:
The Public Relations (PR) Manager serves as an important leader of the Arizona Humane Society's (AHS) multi-faceted and fast-paced Marketing Team. This high energy person oversees the organization's comprehensive public and media relations strategy to ensure consistent messaging and positioning to further elevate AHS as a national leader in animal welfare. This person will lead the PR plan for the grand opening of AHS' Rob & Melani Walton Papago Park Campus right out of the gate. This position is responsible for managing AHS' Media Relations Specialist and Multimedia Team and overseeing all video production. The PR Manager also serves as lead on special organization-wide projects, and works closely with a variety of internal and external stakeholders including staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, donors, media and partners.
Essential Duties:
- Develop and execute the organization's strategic public and media relations plan to ensure consistent messaging and positioning of AHS as a national leader in animal welfare
- Work closely with Media Relations Specialist to oversee weekly TV show, Pets on Parade, and to proactively identify AHS stories and pitch media to raise the profile of AHS, its pets and the organization's key initiatives
- Responsible for writing press releases, media pitches, speaking points, statements, byline articles and other communication for promotion and awareness of AHS' programs and services
- Spearhead AHS' Crisis Communication and Customer Escalation Management Plan to counsel Executive team and provide timely and effective crisis response
- Leverage existing media relationships and cultivate new, ongoing relationships with relevant media representatives at the local, regional and national levels
- Manage inbound and outbound media inquiries and interview requests in a timely manner and be accessible early mornings, late evenings and weekends
- Organize press conferences, arrange and serve as an on-camera spokesperson for interviews
- Serve as on-scene media representative for Field Operation's cases, emergency response, etc. when applicable
- Conduct internal media trainings and train key subject matter experts to serve as AHS spokespeople
- Responsible for monthly monitoring, analyzing, tracking and reporting of media and PR results
- Oversee AHS' annual in-kind media audit
- Oversee awards and conference submissions
- Manage all multimedia assets, including videos, posted on external platforms, such as YouTube
- Lead the Marketing Team on special projects and key initiatives
- Build relationships with key AHS departments and leaders to promote a culture of strong information sharing for consistent storytelling and media pitches
- Collaborate with external stakeholders including funders, donors, public affairs offices, partner organizations, and professional societies
- Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education / Certifications / Licenses:
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or Marketing with a PR concentration
Experience:
- Minimum of 8 years of strategic Public Relations experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience leading a large team
- Must have a robust network of local, state and national media connections for various media channels
- Must have experience in leading Crisis Communications
- Exceptional organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent time management, adaptability, judgment and decision making skills.
- Ability to work under the pressure of tight deadlines
- Thorough knowledge of principles of effective communications, PR and mass media
- Ability to plan, organize, and effectively present ideas and concepts to groups
- Ability to assimilate information from a variety of sources, analyze information, and recommend courses of action to be taken
- Mature interpersonal style; highly collaborative team player with the ability to interact with a diverse range of people
